Somatuline® Depot (lanreotide) Injection works to help your body control acromegaly by lowering the levels of both growth hormone and insulin-like growth factor-1 to levels in the normal range. To achieve this, Somatuline Depot mimics a substance that occurs naturally, known as somatostatin.
At normal levels, somatostatin controls the amount of growth hormone and growth factor in your system. This helps your bones and muscles grow at a normal pace, your body process food, and your cells reproduce.
When you take Somatuline® Depot (lanreotide) Injection, it reduces the excess growth hormone in your body in the same way that somatostatin does. And while natural somatostatin lasts only a short time in your body, Somatuline® Depot (lanreotide) Injection remains in your system for 28 days.
